Manchester City transfer round-up, including updates on Pedro Neto, Rodrygo and Kingsley Coman
Pep Guardiola will be hoping to exact his revenge on Erik ten Hag. Manchester City and Manchester United will lock horns at Wembley Stadium later this afternoon in the Community Shield.
In the meantime, higher-ups at the Etihad Stadium will be working tirelessly to find ways to strengthen the squad. Eberechi Eze has recently emerged as a potential target for the Premier League champions,
meanwhile, Bruno Guimaraes continues to be linked with a switch.
However, securing their signatures could be the least of Guardiola’s concerns,
with Kevin de Bruyne set to leave when his contract expires next year. So, with that being said, the Manchester Evening News has rounded up the latest news and transfer gossip on Saturday morning.
Wolves target ex-Man City ace
According to Fabrizio Romano, Wolves have identified Carlos Forbes as a potential replacement for Pedro Neto, who looks set to join Chelsea this summer. The 20-year-old winger joined Manchester City from Sporting CP in July 2014
before swapping the Etihad Stadium for the Johan Cruyff Arena nine years later.
The report states that Forbes has been placed on Gary O’Neil’s shortlist in case the West London outfit sign Neto. The Ajax ace featured 21 times in the Eredivisie last season, scoring two and providing four assists.
Manchester Evening News says: “Wolves may be keen to sign Carlos Forbes, but Ajax won’t give up the youngster without a fight. Even if he were to join Gary O’Neil’s side, he would arrive with incredible pressure on his shoulders,
with supporters expecting him to fill Pedro Neto’s shoes.”
Real Madrid make Man City offer
According to GiveMeSport, Real Madrid is considering whether or not to offer Manchester City the chance to sign Rodrygo. The report states that Pep Guardiola’s side is in the market for attacking reinforcements,
with Julian Alvarez expected to join Atletico Madrid in the coming days.
Rodrygo has four years remaining on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, which includes a release clause worth £840m. GiveMeSport adds that, despite Los Blancos’ plan to offload the Brazil international,
he’s eager to fight for his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s side despite Kylian Mbappe providing further competition.
Manchester Evening News says: “Rodrygo would be an excellent signing for Manchester City! At just 23, he’d be a superb long-term option for the Premier League champions. The Brazilian’s also incredibly versatile, which is a huge bonus.”
Man City eye Bayern star
According to German newspaper Bild, Manchester City has been interested in signing Kingsley Coman for a while. The 28-year-old winger currently faces an uncertain future at Bayern Munich, with his contract set to expire next year.
The report states that the Bavarians are looking to send Coman out on loan following the arrival of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. The France international only featured 17 times in the Bundesliga last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
Manchester Evening News says: “Manchester City should steer well clear of Kingsley Coman. While the winger may sound like a great signing at face value,
he’ll demand eye-watering wages, he’s suffered numerous injuries over the years
and he’s never played more than 30 league games in a single campaign in his senior career.”
