David Ornstein has revealed that one Arsenal player has agreed a contract with another club and is keen to join them this summer.
The Gunners are currently in the United States on their pre-season tour. They have already faced Bournemouth and Manchester United there and are scheduled to take on Liverpool late on Wednesday night.
Despite their busy schedule, Arsenal remains very active on the transfer market, and a lot of movement is expected in the coming weeks.
Ornstein has now shared the latest on one player who could be on his way out of Arsenal.
David Ornstein reveals Marseille’s latest bid after Eddie Nketiah agrees personal terms
Eddie Nketiah’s future at Arsenal has been up in the air for a while now.
The Englishman has been at Arsenal since he was 14. He came through the ranks at Hale End and was always incredibly prolific there.
However, since making the step up to senior football, Nketiah hasn’t quite been able to produce the same kind of output that he did in the academy.
That’s why he has never been the first-choice at the club, and it is very likely now that Nketiah will leave Arsenal before the window shuts in August.
Marseille have been heavily linked with a move to sign Nketiah this summer. Roberto De Zerbi is a big fan and is really keen to sign him.
Talks between the two clubs have been ongoing, and Ornstein has now shared a new update.
The journalist has revealed that Marseille has tabled an improved bid nearing €20 million (£16.8m) to sign the ‘incredible‘ Nketiah in a formula that’s favorable to Arsenal.
However, the Gunners still deem the offer ‘unrealistic’ and are expected to reject it.
The key point is that Nketiah has agreed personal terms over a five-year contract with Marseille and is keen to leave Arsenal and join them this summer.
Ornstein tweeted: “EXCL: Marseille make an improved offer to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal. The new bid (nearing €20m) is similar to the previous (offer), but closer to the formula Arsenal wants.
“Likely to be deemed unrealistic but talks ongoing + five-year contract agreed; 25-year-old keen on Marseille.”
Arsenal have a simple decision to make
Marseille is keen to sign Nketiah and Arsenal is open to selling him. The player wants to go too, which makes this a fairly straightforward deal to complete.
However, the offer on the table is laughable.
£16.8 million for a player of Nketiah’s quality in today’s market is unacceptable. We just can’t see a world in which Arsenal will entertain this bid.
Arsenal should send the offer back to Marseille with a clear demand of what they want. They should easily be looking at over twice the amount that has been offered.
It will be interesting to see what happens, but as things stand, Arsenal is better off keeping hold of Nketiah than selling him for something like £16 million.
